Frequently Asked Questions
Everything Nebraskans ask us about our free retirement and estate planning seminars. Don't see your question? Give us a call at (531) 210-2693.
Yes. We host free, classroom-style seminars on estate planning and retirement topics at libraries and community venues throughout the Omaha, Nebraska metro. Sessions are open to the public and cover wills, trusts, beneficiary designations, and more in plain English. Give us a call at (531) 210-2693 to hear about the next class near you.
It's genuinely free, with no catch. There's no admission charge, no materials fee, and no obligation to buy anything or schedule a follow-up. We're local educators, and our only goal in the classroom is to answer the questions pre-retirees are already asking.
No. Our seminars follow a strict no-selling policy, and nothing is offered for sale before, during, or after a class. Presenters are there to teach general concepts and let you draw your own conclusions, not to pitch products. As the Nebraska affiliate of a national education coalition, we never sell products to attendees.
Our classes span the subjects pre-retirees and retirees ask about most, including retirement income, annuities, pensions, Medicare, estate planning and trusts, long-term care, life insurance, hospital indemnity, and managing a 401(k). Each session focuses on one topic and keeps things at a general, educational level. You can attend as many as you like as new dates are added.
In general terms, a will is a document that states your wishes and typically takes effect through the court process known as probate, while a trust can hold assets and pass them to your beneficiaries outside of probate. Both are tools families use to direct where things go, and many plans use them together. We explain how these pieces fit in our estate planning classes, though nothing we share is legal advice for your specific situation.
You'll get a plain-spoken overview of how wills, trusts, beneficiary designations, and powers of attorney work together to reflect your wishes and protect your family. We cover the documents families most often overlook and the questions worth asking. You'll leave with a clearer picture and a checklist of next steps to review with your own qualified professionals.
Our classes are led by local Omaha-area educators Pam Otten and Lori O'Keefe. Both are licensed professionals who are trained and vetted through the national Retirement Fundamentals coalition. They bring a patient, question-friendly style and live and work in the same communities they serve.
Just yourself and your questions. There's nothing you're required to bring, no paperwork to fill out in advance, and no personal financial details you need to share. Some attendees like to bring a notepad, but everything you need to follow along is provided in the classroom.
Absolutely, and we encourage it. Retirement and estate decisions often affect the whole household, so many people attend with a spouse, partner, or adult child. There's no extra cost for anyone you bring along.
No. Everything we present is general education only and is not tax, legal, investment, or financial advice. We explain how concepts work broadly, but every person's situation is different. Before acting on anything you learn, we encourage you to consult qualified tax, legal, and financial professionals who can review your individual circumstances.

Not at all. Our seminars are built for both pre-retirees who are planning ahead and people already in retirement. Wherever you are on the path, the classes are designed to meet you with clear, general education. There are no prerequisites and no minimum savings required to attend.
The national Retirement Fundamentals site offers a library of free educational tools and resources you can use anytime, with no appointment needed. We link to them from our site, and they open in a new tab so you can explore at your own pace. They're a helpful complement to what you learn in the classroom.
When a seminar is on the calendar, the date, location, and a simple sign-up appear right here on our site. If nothing is listed at the moment, new dates are added regularly, so it's worth checking back. You can also call us at (531) 210-2693 and we'll gladly let you know when the next class near you is set.
